Using biometrics on the healthcare campus

Fingerprint authentication can make physical access control systems more secure


Biometrics technology is becoming more common in healthcare facility where there is an increasingly need to go beyond an ID card, according to an article on the Campus Safety website.

Biometrics solutions are also being integrated into secure trust platforms that protect privacy, and they support a variety of RFID credential technologies while delivering a much higher matching speed and better overall performance than before, the article said.

Biometrics technology is well suited for hospital applications because of its ability to prevent a user from taking someone else’s card and obtaining access to privileged resources. 

When used for authentication, it adds the human element to strengthen security by combining who the user is with something they have or know.
