Female vets told New Jersey lawmakers that VA healthcare facilities don't take into account their needs as women, according to an article on the North Jersey.com website.
Child care is not offered, for example, and they do not have equipment such as mammography machines, the veterans said.
Another major issue of contention was how uncomfortable female veterans said they feel in the VA hospital in East Orange.
"It's a serious issue for women to not walk into East Orange. That needs to be looked at," said Verna Martin, a retired Army veteran. said. "To walk into East Orange, it's like walking into a strip club."
