Vermont hospital transitioning to single rooms

Plans are in the works for full renovations and new construction at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington

Plans are in the works for full renovations and new construction at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt., according to an article on the My Champlain Valley website. Among other changes, the facility is transitioning to single rooms.

The Mother Baby Unit will be the first area to see change.

“There's just not enough room. Rooms were built half a century ago just don't work well with today's care standards," said Director of Facilities Planning & Development, David Keelty.

Forty percent of Fletcher Allen's patient rooms are singles right now. If approved, another project would bump that up to 90 percent, the article said.

The hospital is also planning a new, multi-story building with 128 rooms. It would be built on top of the current emergency room parking lot.
