The president and CEO of San Francisco-based Dignity Health system is urging the healthcare industry to lead the way on climate change and offers six ways healthcare facilities can reduce their environmental footprint, according to an article on the Fierce Healthcare website.
Lloyd Dean said hospitals can reduce their environmental footprint by:
• Making environmentally preferred purchases
• Using safer chemicals
• Launching green building and resiliency initiatives
• Consuming less energy, water and raw materials
• Recycling
• Transitioning to renewable energy sources
Dignity has pledged to increase its use of renewable energy by 35 percent by 2020 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent in the same timeframe.
