What hospitals can learn from airports

Look at healthcare patients like travelers and listen to their point of view as consumers


 

Hospitals could learn a few things from the airport, according to a blog in a Healthcare Facilities Symposium newsletter. The six observations from Gensler's Tama Duffy Day include:

1. Use brands and signage

2. Embrace the community

3. Create a calming place 

4. Make all guests and customers feel welcome

5. Anticipate guest needs

6. Focus on well-being

"The big takeaway for me is to look at airport travelers and healthcare patients as consumers, listen to their point of view. If hospitals take the time to observe, listen, shadow the consumer, and experience the event through the eyes of the customer, we'll all be better for it," Day wrote.
