Rosendin has begun work on the new UCSF Health Helen Diller Hospital in San Francisco. The $4.3 billion project at the University of California, San Francisco’s flagship campus at Parnassus Heights is one of the nation’s most innovative hospitals under construction, dubbed “the hospital of the future.”

In August 2020, Rosendin was selected to be part of the project team that includes preconstruction and design-build work for a 15-story outpatient tower, led by general contractor Herrero Boldt Webcor, a tri-venture partnership between Herrero Builders Inc., The Boldt Company and Webcor. A groundbreaking ceremony was held in April and demolition of the existing building is underway. When completed in 2030, the 869,550-square-foot plan will transform the historic campus with a state-of-the-art hospital.

Rosendin has been actively working on Make Ready projects for the new hospital campus for several years. During the build phase, the electrical contractor will tie facilities to the existing central utility plant and bring in utilities for future expansion. Plans also include renovating parts of the Long and Moffit hospitals at Parnassus Heights.

Rosendin’s work is part of a comprehensive, 30-year construction plan that will transform the Parnassus Heights campus into an innovative health and research campus that will attract global talent while meeting future demand for care. The design includes a healing habitat incorporating natural light, plants, and trees into the building’s architecture. When completed, the design will increase overall inpatient bed capacity by 37 percent and expand the emergency department by nearly 65 percent.

The large project team includes the architect of record HDR and design consultant Herzog & de Meuron, as well as teams from Arup, Cal Drywall Co., Mazzetti, McGuire & Hester, Nabih Youssef & Associates, Southland Industries, and TEECOM.

In addition to a 30 percent local hiring target for the construction project, UCSF pledged to create 1,000 union jobs and establish new training programs. It has also invested $20 million in improving public transportation in the region.
