eCLIQ Provides Flexible Access Management And Easy Installation In A Hospital Environment

University Hospital Frankfurt is the largest public health facility in the Hesse region, delivering medical care and education through 32 clinics and 20 research institutes. Extensive new construction, expansion and renovation in multi-phase stages have been under way since 2001. The goal is to create a flagship health-care organization equipped for the 21st century.

As part of the overhaul, hospital managers sought a new secure locking system for a recently completed large building. They turned to HOST GmbH, on whom the hospital relies to implement reliable, innovative security technologies at its sites.

eCLIQ Installation

The new installation chosen by HOST GmbH involves 1,100 electronic eCLIQ cylinders, plus an equal number of programmable keys. Based on widely deployed CLIQ® mechatronic locking technology, eCLIQ is a fully electronic solution with high-end microelectronics, programmable keys and cylinders. Locks and keys are easy for staff and visitors to use, and for security managers to administer using web-based software. Lost keys can be quickly de-authorized, minimizing the security risks associated with key loss. At any time, facility managers can quickly generate a complete audit trail to discover who has accessed which locks, and when.

Encrypted communications ensure interaction between key and lock is secure. Keys are durable, reversible and meet the IP67 waterproofing standard. Powered by standard lithium-ion batteries, they are a low-maintenance solution with a service life of around 3 years. The innovative eCLIQ cylinder remains maintenance free for up to 200,000 cycles — saving site managers time and money.

Keys and locks are programmable, allowing temporary and time-limited access permissions tailored to every individual employee or contractor. With eCLIQ, nurses can update their access rights every morning for just the day ahead, which further minimizes potential security vulnerabilities caused by lost keys. HOST GmbH fitted 5 wall-mounted eCLIQ programming devices used to update keys’ access rights, 4 with inbuilt anti-vandalism protection.

Flexibility And Modularity

For HOST GmbH, one critical factor was the flexibility and modularity of the eCLIQ system: "Rapid-locking, modular cylinders which can be individually adapted in combination with very sturdy and user-friendly keys — eCLIQ thoroughly meets these requirements,” says Michael Molz, Managing Director of HOST GmbH.

Facility management staff are already impressed with the new system. Plans are in place to equip several more buildings with eCLIQ, as University Hospital Frankfurt moves into the final stages of its major renovation project.
